Special Education as a Civil Right under IDEA

Children with special needs have the same right to a free, appropriate, public education in the least restrictive environment that all children possess.  The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was passed “to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free, appropriate education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.”

Unfortunately, obtaining the necessary individualized services so that your child can receive this education can be a process fraught with difficulties and obstruction.  At the Freel Sparks Law Firm we believe that a child’s right to an education is a civil right  that should be zealously defended.  The Freel Sparks Law Firm provides advocacy and representation for parents of children with special needs in Seattle and throughout the Puget Sound.
